Google is making updates to Google Assistant to improve quality, reliability, and ease of use across your devices.

As part of this effort, some less frequently used features will no longer be supported.

If you try to use a feature that’s being discontinued, you may receive a notification letting you know it will no longer be available after a certain date. The affected features are as follows:

  • Photo favorites and details by voice: You won’t be able to favorite, share, or ask when and where photos were taken using voice commands. However, you can still manage your photos directly in the Google Photos app or view photo details on your Smart Display and tablet.
  • Photo frame and ambient screen settings by voice: Voice control for these settings will be discontinued, but you can still adjust them manually in your Smart Display settings.
  • Interpreter mode for live conversations: The ability to translate live conversations using interpreter mode is going away. However, you’ll still be able to translate individual words or phrases between languages.
  • Birthday reminders in Routines: Automatic birthday reminder notifications within Routines will no longer be supported, but you can still ask Google Assistant to set custom birthday reminders.
  • Family Bell announcements: You won’t be able to schedule or replay past Family Bell announcements through voice commands.
  • Daily updates: The option to receive daily updates like weather reports through a simple voice command will be removed. You can still schedule such updates by setting up a custom Routine.
  • Google Assistant on certain car accessories: Support will end for car accessories that rely on Bluetooth connections or AUX plugs to run Google Assistant.

These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to improving Google Assistant by refining its capabilities and ensuring a smoother, more reliable experience — Google.
